Bob was given a citation in 1983 for attempting to:

1: Climb the Washington Monument
2: Sit in Lincoln's lap at the Lincoln Memorial
3: Jump over the Grand Canyon in a Winnebago
4: Sneak into the hot tub at the Watergate Hotel

It's the portion of our show where Bob torments a favorite client with five stupid (but fast) questions. In this edition...

'The Red Lemon' To Have World Premiere As A Symphony

Famed composer Jerry Brubaker (he most recently created the musical score for the new Harry Potter movie) has been commisioned by the Manassas (VA) Symphony Orchestra to create a musical symphony based on Bob Staake's award-winning Random House picture book, The Red Lemon. "It's tough enough writing and illustrating a children's book", says Staake, "but I would have no clue as to how you might set the story to music. I'm flattered that the Symphony would create an orchestral arrangement for Dr. Seuss' Green Eggs And Ham and would now want to do the same thing with The Red Lemon. It'll be interesting to hear it while art from the book is projected."

The Red Lemon Symphony will have its world premiere on December 19, 2009 in Manassas, Virginia. More info here.

President likes Bob's 'Bo'

Nice report by Bob Schieffer for CBS' Face The Nation (4/26/2009). See the cover.

It's Official: The Society Of Illustrators LOVES Donuts!

It was announced that Bob's most recent picture book, 'The Donut Chef' (Random House - 2009) was selected for 'The Original Art Show' by the Society of Illustrators. Bob, of course, is humbled -- and appreciative of the honor. Meet him in New York City on October 22, 2009 for the opening of the show (and so you can see all the art from many gorgeous picture books!)

Watch It Happen

These videos showing Bob creating his art using an antique (ha!) version of Photoshop (3.0) became a minor rage when the good people at BoingBoing.net sniffed 'em out. If you haven't seen them, kick back and enjoy them via YouTube

The Numbers Are In!

And it looks like Bob Staake has been named 'Illustrator Most Likely To Meet An Insanely Tight Two Hour Deadline With 28 Minutes To Spare'. Bob would like to share this honor with his intravenous drip of french roast coffee. Don't believe it? Throw an assignment Bob's way and find out

Fake Poster Of The Month That Should Really Be A Real Poster, Right?

In his down time, Bob loves to create what he calls fauxsters that hype ficticious brands, questionable products or otherwise made up stuff. The great thing about FEZ-Brand Fezes is that they're also great for covering up bald spots. Well, MOST of the bald spot.

Vroom! Vroom!

When you're an artist with a severe case of ADHD, there's always 20 things on your drawing board. Here's one thing that Bob's working on -- Peter Stein's fabulous 'Cars Galore' (sample cover left)

Yum!

Last week a Chatham fisherman was in the studio. He saw Bob's Cape Cod poster on the wall and said "that has to be the tastiest looking lobster I've ever seen." Bob took the comment as the surpreme compliment -- then he and the fisherman removed the poster from the wall, boiled some water, melted a little butter, and they ate it. Yummy indeed!

'Most Popular' New Yorker Cover?

There have been countless memorable New Yorker covers, but which are the 12 Most Popular?

There's Saul Steinberg's infamous "no life west of the Hudson', Art Spiegelman's post-911 Twin Towers image and Barry Blitt's notorious Obama "fist bump" illustration -- but what about the others?

Think you know which cover ranks number one?

If not today, then maybe tomorrow. Keep Bob in mind. He LOVES those insanely-tight deadlines.
