Contiinuation of the story from Headlines:

Behind The Pages With Bob:

"...In my settlement with Warner Books for the loss of the 14 original pen and ink drawings for Headlines, Leno's notorious longtime agent, Helen Kushnick (he fired her in 1992), demanded that I sign a retroactive contract stating that the drawings constituted a Work-For-Hire, that I transfer the copyright to Leno's Big Dog Productions -- and that I agreed to create the art for More Headlines as a Work-For-Hire and transfer the copyright as well. I have never been one to "renegotiate today a contract I signed yesterday," so I told her no. It was never clear to me why Kushnick suddenly wanted to secure the ownership rights for both the past and future art, but I learned that this was the sort of unprofessionalism she was known for -- and what ultimately brought down her empire. At one time she was one of the most powerful women in Hollywood, but that seemed to change overnight (a Google search cn be truly eye opening.) At the end of the day it didn't matter that I had donated my advance and royalties for Headlines to the Samuel Jared Kushnick Foundation and their efforts to fight pediatric Aids (the foundation was established by Helen Kushnick to honor her son Samuel who had died of Aids at 3 after a blood transfusion.) For More Headlines Warner Books and Kushnick returned to the illustrator they had rejected on the first book. I would not be illustrating More Headlines -- this time it would be my artistic idol and friend, Jack Davis. It remains a mystery where my original 14 pen and ink drawings for Headlines wound up -- but of course I would love to find them."
