Behind The Pages With Bob:

"I have collaborated with Dennis Shealy on a number of transportation-oriented Little Golden Books and his stories are always so much fun to illustrate. I like drawing snow scenes, so every spread for 'I'm A Snowplow' seemed to flow effortlessly from my pen, brush, Prisacolors and mouse. What I wanted to do in the artwork was to depict the giddy gleefulness of kids who get a snow day off from school. The only other time I have drawn so many snowflakes in a book was for Margaret Wise Brown's 'The Steamroller' (also a Little Golden Book.)"

-- Bob Staake

As the snowplow spreads salt on the slcik road, a small salt shaker can be seen toppling through the air.

The runway scene was inspired by my memory of the opening cradits for the 1970 disaster film, "Airport."

A snowman wearing a top hat appears on an early page in the story then later on her appears again - but for some reason I drew his hat sitting on the ground -- and I can't remember why!
