FREEBIES was created by Bob
Staake.
Staake's illustrations,
designs and graphics have appeared in The Washington Post, MAD
magazine, The New Yorker and countless other publications. He
is the author and/or illustrator of over 45 books, the most recent
being 'Struwwelpeter' (Fantagraphics) and 'The Red Lemon' (Random
House and Golden Books). Staake has produced kid-oriented work
for the Disney Channel, MTV/Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network and
Children's Television Workshop.
For many years,
Staake created games, activities and illustrations for a variety
of Ralston Purina cereals -- from Dinersaurs to Ghostbusters,
Fruit Islands to Nerds, Chex to Urkel-O's. For a very short time,
he was also a design partner in a Limited Liability Corporation
that sought to create a cereal-based theme park (no, he's not
kidding).
It has always
been his desire to envision a health-conscious cereal brand that
used a humorous character-driven storyline that could both entertain
and teach positive valued to kids while appealing to consumers
and adults.
By blending
hip graphics with colorful design, FREEBIES was created
to evoke sensibility that it both retro in appeal yet throughly
modern.
Staake lives
and works in Chatham, Massachusetts.

What others
have said about Bob Staake:
Staake's
illustrations (are) a stylistic collision of Russian constructivism
and pop art, (and) explode with energy playing off of basic geometric
shapes and angles and swimming in saturated colors."
-- Publishers
Weekly
"Staake's
(picture books) are notable for the sophistication of their graphic
design. Simple enough to hold the attention of toddlers, these
colorful, computer-enhanced images are also visually interesting
enough to please preschoolers and parents as well."
-- American
Library Association
"Bob
Staake's modern, crisp illustrations ... practically jump off
the page."
